Missionary Health

This is the travel insurance company I use for our teams.  I have been VERY pleased with them.  They are very personable on the phone if you have questions.  Their rates are adjusted by age and very reasonable.  I take the total amount for the team and divide it up equally.   Nancy Eden

Ile a Vache Preparedness

Physical preparedness
   • Be able to walk steep uphill areas
   • Wear sunscreen (reapply often)
   • Use lip balm with sunscreen
   • Wear hats
   • Consider using a towel to cover your shoulders during the boat ride
   • Consider wearing sunglasses
   • Bring LOTS of drinking water
   • Consider bringing snacks
   • Bring toilet paper
   • Bring hand sanitizer
   • Bring insect spray
   • Bring water shoes, as you will disembark into water
   • Wear as little jewelry or other flashy items as possible
   • Team to bring first aid kit (no medical facility is available
      on the island) – with Cipro

Boat ride
   • If Dramamine is needed, please take the night before the boat trip
   • All missionaries must wear life jackets in the boat
   • When embarking and disembarking, NEVER place your hands
      on the side of the boat that is closest to the dock or
      next to another boat
   • When in the water, do not hang hands over the side into the water
   • The sun is intense, protect yourself accordingly

Please DO NOT
   • Give items to the villagers without prior permission

Walking on the Isle
   • Protect your feet from bacteria in the soil
   • Watch for bushes with "prickers" – the thorns contain an irritant
   • The climb is steep and on uneven paths, filled with mud, cow manure etc.
   • Stop to rest under a shade tree

Working on the Isle
   • Wear sunscreen and reapply often
   • Drink LOTS of water - DO NOT drink island water, if it has
      not been purified
   • Take frequent breaks IN THE SHADE
   • DO NOT attempt to work as long as you would in the states!
