Information for In-coming Teams (click panel to open/close)
Check with the airlines for current luggage regulations
One carry-on … usually allowed 40 pounds / 45 inches
One “large” purse
One check-in … usually 50 pounds / 62 inches
One team check-in
Inside luggage … identification, copy of passport, list of meds
Rubbermaid totes are allowed only during certain months – check with airlines
Medication … in original containers - put in carry-on
• Do not pack aerosol cans
• Remember 3-1-1 liquid carry-on rule
• Use Ziploc bags for clothes, etc.
• Pack extra sanitary products
• Do not bring large or flashy jewelry
• Bring a TEAM first aid kit
• Money for purchases in airport
• Unmarked twenties
• Money exchange once in LesCayes (but most will take US currency)
• Locked in safe at host's site (with tickets & passports)
(Prior to placing in safe, please place in a ziploc bag with your name on it!)
When in villages … wear socks with sandals
Women
• Long shorts for travel through the country
• Long shorts OK for travel home
• Long Shorts/skirts at guest house or in the community
• Watch your neckline – MODESTY IS THE KEY!
• Sleeveless OK (except in church services), watch sleeve opening size
• At church, women must NOT wear a sleeveless dress
unless covered by a jacket or shawl
Men
• At church, men should wear dress or polo-style shirt and long pants
• Money and passports concealed
• Food stop MAY be possible
KEEP THESE ITEMS WHERE YOU CAN EASILY REACH THEM….
• Enough bottled water for entire trip to LesCayes
• Snacks for entire trip to LesCayes
• Toilet paper/Kleenex, bug spray, hand wipes and/or sanitizer gel
• Sunglasses
• Camera, film and EXTRA battery

No refunds on cancellations, but can be used on future flights
FLIGHT TIMES (41 minutes)
LES CAYES to PORT-AU-PRINCE: 7 a.m. & 1 p.m.
PORT-AU-PRINCE to LES CAYES: NOON & 4 p.m.
(Check with Nora as schedule changes about every 3 months.)
LUGGAGE
• Permitted one 70 lb. bag per person
• Additional bags allowed at approximately $1.25 US per pound
• Transportation for you will be arranged
from the Les Cayes airport to the church compound.
• E-mails home MAY NOT be possible and will be restricted
to one team member for the entire team
• Family should call Haiti ONLY in an emergency at 011.509.3.485.6267
• EMERGENCY contacts will be made to one designated person at home,
team should select a “team medic” for this purpose,
and for first aid needs
• 4 to 8 people per room
• Flushing toilet, sink with running water
• Occasional hot water heated by the sun or plug in type heater
• No air conditioning, should be fans
• Bring flashlights, EXTRA batteries, common for power outages
• Bring own TP, wash clothes & towels, tube hangers (to leave behind)
• Water from faucet is not drinkable, use bottled water for teeth brushing
• Ice will be provided that is safe (but ask first)
• 3 meals/day at guest house (even though Haitians may not eat)
• Bring your own snacks for the week
• Provided at the guest house:
drinkable water, coffee, soda, sheets, pillows, pillow cases, one towel
• No smoking (Christians in Haiti DO NOT smoke)
• No giving of addresses and e-mail addresses
• Do not carry large sums of money (if any)
• No giving to beggars
• No giving or commitments made to new friends/Haitian church workers
without first consulting with your Haitian hosts
• Select a team photographer
• Select a team medic
• Select a team music coordinator
• Shopping done ONLY on Vendor Day
• NO PHOTOS inside airport customs area
This MAY BE the devotion schedule.
• Devotions each morning!
• Devotions each evening!
• Team members will be asked to take a turn at devotions,
bringing with them enough copies for each team member.
• Final day… Debriefing meeting will occur along with devotions!
Can cause jealousy, can be done by us selfishly to make us feel good,
unfulfilled promises can cause damage
To the church/school…
Let your Haitian host decide what is most needed,
rather than using our “American Eyes” to decide what is needed
To the orphanage…
Discuss appropriate time to give items brought with team leader first!
