The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Haiti

As of May, 2009, the ELCH counts 7 districts, 90 congregations, over 12,000 members, 62 schools with a student population of over 8,000.

A break down of the ELCH districts is:
North: 5 congregations and 4 schools
Central Plateau: 10 congregations and 6 Schools
North-East: 2 congregations and 1 School
South-East: 4 congregations and 3 Schools
South-West: 32 congregations and 22 Schools
South: 35 congregations and 23 schools
Port-au-Prince: 3 congregations and 3 Schools.

The ELCH leaders strongly believe in the value of education. They think the Church can have a real impact upon the woes of the community if it endeavors to provide a good Christian education to the children—especially those who would normally not have access to such education and who would later become a real danger to the society.

The schools also constitute a wonderful way to evangelize and catechize not only the children but also their entire families, and through them many have been brought to the church. Therefore, most congregations have schools attached to them, through which they reach out to over 8,000 students.
